Custom shipping of specialty vehicles

Custom shipping of specialty vehicles for Fortune 10 auto manufacturer

Moovit helped to secure a custom airfreight container using military-grade aluminum with unmatched safety and security during shipping and handling and developed a custom visibility system and communication tool specifically for the shipment of their vehicle globally.

Client needs and Our Goals

Risk of damage and a lack of communication and visibility regarding their concept, prototype and historical vehicles during transportation internationally. These are very high-value vehicles (most concepts are valued about $2.5Million; some historical vehicles are valued at $15Million). These vehicles are shipped via air, and at the time were packed in wooden crates, susceptible to flexing and damage during shipping and handling.

Logistic Solutions and Results

Moovit contracted a container manufacturer, who produces containers for the U.S. Military to manufacture a custom airfreight container (Moovit`s AutoGuard Container). The container is constructed using military-grade aluminum and provides unmatched safety and security during shipping and handling. The container was intelligently designed both in size and functionality to provide the customer with the most options for shipping and use.The strength and functionality of this crate provided a far superior solution for crating of high-value vehicles.

Packaging for bio pharmaceuticals

Packaging solutions for global bio-pharmaceuticals manufacturer

Palletized shipping was causing damage to pharmaceutical samples. Moovit Logistics helped to create a custom solution to protect the shipping and storage for this global manufacturer.

Clients Needs and Our Goals

Damaged shipment problems persisted for several years at great financial loss to the Client. Countless attempts were made to rectify the issue, including pallet toppers, pallet cone protocol, new pallet-building procedures, even labels. None of these measures reduced incidences of damage. The Client, unsure of the root of the problem, had instructed the warehouse to utilize “Do Not Top” labels and cones. Unfortunately, adherence to these types of instructions and products create significant cost increases for carriers, drastically reducing the amount of freight on a vehicle by 50%.

Project Solutions and Results

After a thorough investigation, we concluded that there was damage throughout the pallets. A significant percentage of the damage was due to sloppy double stacking of pallets, which crushed and ripped the tops of boxes, corners and side walls. Moovit introduced the client to a product it had initially developed to provide added security for controlled substance shipments. The product, a “double-walled pallet sleeve,” allowed Moovit to quickly, easily and cost-effectively provide double-walled corrugated protection to all sample shipments.

Developing a ‘Future-Proofed’ Sustainability Strategy

As the world’s largest container shipping company, Maersk Line transports more than 15 percent of all shipped containers. In an industry that transports more than a third of the value of global trade—and accounts for about 4 percent of the world’s carbon emissions—Maersk Line has a tremendous economic, social, and environmental footprint. Facing pressure to reduce the company’s environmental and social impacts, Maersk Line leaders viewed this challenge as an opportunity to offer customers a value proposition on sustainability that could not be matched by competitors. Company leaders asked BSR to help develop a “future-proofed” sustainability strategy.

Internal Review and Current State

Through interviews with executive management, regional leaders, and sustainability professionals, BSR gathered details about Maersk Line’s corporate objectives, strategy, business model, and existing sustainability efforts. This work clarified company strengths and weaknesses and defined key drivers for the company’s sustainability performance. We discovered that Maersk Line lacked a comprehensive approach to working on and communicating about sustainability, which made it difficult for company managers to establish a business case for new programs.

External Review and Future State

Next, we built a set of future trends such as “hypertransparency,” regulated carbon, and resource constraints that business leaders would need to consider in strategic planning for the next seven to 10 years. We then tested these trends with employees and management teams to ensure a global perspective and identify specific regional challenges. Together with consultations with the company’s major customers and key industry stakeholders.

Build Vision and Strategy

Moovit helped Maersk Line define a strong sustainability vision supported by objectives such as reducing carbon-dioxide emissions by 25 percent by 2020 and striving for zero sulfur-dioxide emissions. This strategy will raise the bar for sustainability in the industry.

The Automotive Industry Action Group

The Automotive Industry Action Group: supply chain goals

The automotive global supply chain touches nearly every other industry, including steel, plastics, textiles, electronics, and more. As scrutiny of human rights practices in other industries heated up, the automotive sector knew it could soon become a target if it did not proactively address the social impacts of its operations. In an effort to improve the working conditions of the automotive supply chain, five major auto companies sought BSR's help to create a set of working conditions guidelines and other tools. BSR was assisted by a sizeable grant from the U.S. State Department to fund this initiative.

Our Strategy: On-site training and Corporate engagement

The goal of the Working Conditions Initiative, housed at the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), was to create a sustainable auto forum focused on working conditions. Over two years, BSR worked hand in hand with manufacturers, some suppliers and other stakeholders to create and implement a program for improving working conditions.

Logistic Solutions and Results

The five participating lead auto companies, AIAG and BSR created guidelines and trainings to improve working conditions to meet stakeholder expectations. This new best practice framework can now be integrated into every tier of the automotive supply chain, allowing it to have substantial impact.

Imported products https://moovit.foxthemes.me/portfolio/imported-products/ Tue, 29 Oct 2019 10:33:59 +0000 https://moovit.foxthemes.me/?post_type=aheto-portfolio&p=3645

Imported products Logistics Case Study

Rubber products manufacturer uses Moovit FTZ to improve cash flow

This major manufacturer makes rubber products for a wide range of uses, including supermarket check-out counters, package handling, and exercise equipment. The company imports raw material from overseas into the port in Norfolk, VA. So we used Moovit customer service resources to reduce administrative time. On the customer’s behalf, Moovit handled filing of monthly FTZ 214 documents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Situation and Logistic Strategy

Rubber products manufacturer wanted to stage this raw material at a warehouse close to key manufacturing sites in Eastern NC – ideally a warehouse with foreign trade zone (FTZ) status. Moovit Logistics fit the bill on all fronts and the companies have enjoyed a successful partnership since 2008.

Leverage FTZ advantages to improve cash flow

Moovit stores material in its general purpose FTZ in Eastern NC. Since FTZs are considered outside U.S. Customs territory, there can be an immediate movement of goods to Moovit’s FTZ, delaying the payment of Customs duty and excise taxes until the product leaves the facility. To support unplanned activity spikes, Moovit can recruit trained workers at a moment’s notice since four other Kanban warehouses are located very close to the FTZ. This enables a very responsive inbound logistics solution without the need for outside temporary labor.
