Product ships throughout the US, elevating the risk of exposure to extreme temperatures and climate fluctuations. Customer requires its Logistics Service Provider to excel in also handling ‘ad hoc’ and ‘specialized’ projects, creating outside the box solutions, and adapting to rapidly changing conditions while safeguarding the products and providing exceptional levels of service.

Project main goals

The Client replenishes its visitors’ center in Times Square, NYC, from locations in the North East USA. The center is stocked with a variety of products — from temperature-sensitive, climate-controlled foodstuffs to fragile souvenirs and plush toys. The center must be regularly replenished, with deliveries occurring up to 6 nights a week. The Client seeks a Logistics Service Provider that can provide superior service and value. As the deliveries include temperature-controlled food products and delicate collectibles, efficient and professional logistics operations are critical to minimizing loss, maintaining supply and ensuring timeliness.

The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network: Argentina Collective Action

The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) recognized through its anonymous incident reporting mechanism frequent recurring reports of financial demands made during the vessel clearance process in Argentina.

Our Strategy

To address this challenge, MACN sought to understand the root causes and devise solutions with a coalition of champions. MACN and local partner Governance Latam, in collaboration with other industry stakeholders, catalyzed a collective action program to investigate the root causes of the problem and support SENASA in reforming its procedures to tackle systemic corruption.

Our Outcomes and Impact

Following a series of public consultations on the new regulation, MACN’s collective action resulted in a new regulatory framework in Argentina that reduces discretion in the inspection of holds and tanks, establishes a system of cross-checks to increase integrity, provides an escalation process when disputes occur, and creates an e-governance system to underpin the framework. Inspections will be conducted by registered private surveyors, and, in case of conflict, bulk carriers will be able to request supervision of these inspectors from SENASA.

Rubber products manufacturer uses Moovit FTZ to improve cash flow

This major manufacturer makes rubber products for a wide range of uses, including supermarket check-out counters, package handling, and exercise equipment. The company imports raw material from overseas into the port in Norfolk, VA. So we used Moovit customer service resources to reduce administrative time. On the customer’s behalf, Moovit handled filing of monthly FTZ 214 documents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Situation and Logistic Strategy

Rubber products manufacturer wanted to stage this raw material at a warehouse close to key manufacturing sites in Eastern NC – ideally a warehouse with foreign trade zone (FTZ) status. Moovit Logistics fit the bill on all fronts and the companies have enjoyed a successful partnership since 2008.

Leverage FTZ advantages to improve cash flow

Moovit stores material in its general purpose FTZ in Eastern NC. Since FTZs are considered outside U.S. Customs territory, there can be an immediate movement of goods to Moovit’s FTZ, delaying the payment of Customs duty and excise taxes until the product leaves the facility. To support unplanned activity spikes, Moovit can recruit trained workers at a moment’s notice since four other Kanban warehouses are located very close to the FTZ. This enables a very responsive inbound logistics solution without the need for outside temporary labor.

The company has faced criticism at its spring water sites in North America from community members who have two primary concerns.

Our Goals and Project Strategy

Our goal was to design a companywide framework for siting and community involvement that addresses NWNA business objectives, includes full participation by and addresses the concerns of the community and government agencies, and is designed with the input of national stakeholders. To execute this project, we employed our experience developing community-engagement strategies for the extractives industry, as well as our expertise in responsible natural resource management.

Logistic Solutions and Results

At the time of this Report’s publication, NWNA was at the midway point of this engagement, and the company had already begun to take several important steps toward the development and implementation of the new siting framework. We believe that, if implemented, this will lead to a more consistently successful approach to engaging with communities.
